MAC addresses are preserved across VMotion migrations. Because the MAC addresses for each virtual machine are virtualized, VirtualCenter preserves a system’s MAC addresses across migration. To guarantee that the switch is aware of the new location of the system, VirtualCenter will send an ARP packet to the switch to inform it of the virtual machine’s new location.
