How are long term projects structured so that students maintain their focus?
We begin each project by identifying the driving question we will answer in order to help a person or group in need (the project challenge). In order to gain enough knowledge so that we can fully answer the driving question, students engage in a number of investigations. Students are expected to document what was observed and the significance of the observations. After each investigation, results and conclusions are discussed. Students are then given a HW reading that further clarifies the purpose of the investigation. After completing the questions from the HW reading students are to fill in a lab assessment at home. After a number of investigations students are given an In-Class Assessment and eventually an Exam. Towards the end of the project students will present findings.
