depends on the age of the child and the circumstances behind the kidnap on whether the parent was being irresponsible or if something else was the case. if a parent lets her five year old daughter play in the fenced in backyard without parental/guardian supervision and a kidnapper came into the backyard and took the child, then no, i would say it would not be the parent’s fault if that child got kidnapped, however, lets say it’s a latch-key kid, that child gets home, realizes he doesn’t have a key to get in, he wanders the streets waiting for his parents to get home, he gets kidnapped, then yes, that would be the parents fault. the parent should have made sure the child had a key first of all, and the child should have had a neighbor that he was told to go to if he should happen to lose his key.

I think all kidnapping is the result of irresponsible parenting. If the non custodial parent was being responsible they wouldn’t be kidnapping and if your kid is kidnapped b/c you aren’t doing enough to prevent it then that’s irresponsible as well.
