The pieces of the matrix consist of the verbal and non-verbal subtests of the Cognitive Abilities Test, the vocabulary and reading comprehension subtests of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, and teacher recommendation. Students eligible for placement in Project IDEA need 9 out of a possible 19 points on the matrix. Schools may petition for consideration of a student for Project IDEA placement with a score of 8 on the matrix. This petitioning process involves alternate assessment as well as a review of student daily performance. A copy of the matrix is available upon request. Students considered for Project IDEA+ have been identified for Honors Mathematics and Project IDEA. In addition, students achieve a Standard Age Score (SAS) of 135 or greater on each of the verbal, nonverbal and quantitative subtests of the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).
