How Are Humint, Sigint And Imagery Used By The Intelligence Communities?
First off there is Humint. Human Intelligence, the information that is given over from human sources, whether wittingly or not. Since human beings are open and subject to deception, humint remains a strong way of getting intelligence but a strong way of giving false intelligence. Sigint is short for signals intelligence. The interception of signals is a major form of intelligence collection, from satellite interception to telephone calls. There are two further subdivisions of Sigint, Comint, the interception of communications, whether that is phone or radio. Elint, is electronic interceptions, involving the analysis of signals from radars, planes, subs etc. Unfortunately, sometimes airliners are used for this type of gathering information, which has ended in them being shot down in the past.
