How are hospitalists paid?
Hospitalists, like most other physicians, are compensated under every possible financial arrangement. According to SHM’s 2003-04 Productivity & Compensation Survey, 38% of hospitalists are on straight salary and another 45% are on a mixture of salary and productivity incentives. Only 8% of hospitalists are paid solely on productivity. Hospitalists incomes are generally 10-20% more than a comparable primary care physician in their community.
