How are Hoopdance and Hula Hooping related?
Some people think of Hoopdance as “Hula Hooping”. Although Hoopdance has its roots in “Hula Hooping”, they are stylistically different. The concepts are similar: the manipulation of a circular piece of tubing around the body in a rhythmic motion, using centrifugal force to keep the hoop “up”. Hoopdance is also referred to as “Hooping”. Hoopdance takes the “Hula Hoop” craze of the 50’s to a new level. The name “Hula Hoop” was a term trademarked by Wham-O in the 1950’s. Although they were the first to introduce the “craze” to the United States, the fundamentals of Hooping have been around for thousands of years.
