How are hearing aids fitted?
All hearing aids are now digital and are programmed by interfacing them with a computer, so that the digital chip can be programmed to compensate for your specific hearing loss. To ensure the most accurate fit, real ear speech mapping is also utilized simultaneously.. This involves placing a small microphone (thin wire) in your ear, along with the hearing aid, and recording the sound pressure provided against the eardrum by the hearing aid. This ensures that soft speech sounds are audible, medium speech sounds are comfortable, and loud sounds are loud, but not uncomfortable. In addition, your performance in noise is evaluated in our Lifes Sound Suite. If you are not adequately hearing in quiet and/or noise, your hearing aids are fine tuned.
