The first method is to connect HART devices to the analog I/O modules like any other 4-20 mA device. In this method, the HART device data that is transmitted via the HART digital signals are not available in the controller, therefore, not available for control usage. The HART digital device data is enabled with a HART hardware multiplexer. This solution uses third party multiplexer hardware modules to route the HART analog and digital signals to two separate communication pathways.
