How are grade and pay retention handled under DCIPS?
• Because the DCIPS occupational structure is comprised of pay bands instead of grades, grade retention is no longer necessary. • Employees on grade retention at the time of conversion will continue to receive the rate of pay that correlates to the employees retained grade and step. If the employees converted base salary exceeds the rate range for the assigned pay band, the employee will receive indefinite pay retention under DCIPS. • An employee on pay retention will convert to DCIPS based on the pay of the permanent position of record. If, after conversion, the employees base salary exceeds the rate range for the assigned pay band, the employee will be placed on indefinite pay retention until the rate range for the employees pay band encompasses the employees salary.
