How are #gamemp3s releases ripped, encoded, &c?
#gamemp3s releases are always ripped from the original CD, usually with Exact Audio Copy. A recent version of LAME (usually 3.97) is used, currently with the command-line options -V 0 –vbr-new, which invokes VBR encoding. (Previously #gamemp3s has used the –alt-preset option and, before that, the –r3mix option.) The albums are then tagged as accurately as possible, in both ID3v1 and ID3v2 (note that older releases may not have ID3v2). After that, an NFO file is created, which includes a track list, album information, encoding information, release information, &c. An M3U is also created, which is a play-list file that can be used with media players such as Winamp and iTunes. Finally, an SFV is created, which is a file that contains values for verifying the integrity of the MP3 files.
