How are future traffic projections determined? How are they used?
Future traffic projections are determined by the use of a Travel Demand Model. The model is calibrated using today’s population, land use, street network and travel characteristics. The model is then used to predict future traffic volumes using a future land use plan and street network for a particular planning year. In this case, a build-out scenario land use plan was used to forecast traffic volumes for approximately the year 2030.
