How are ESITES physically located, e.g., by the front door, end of driveway, corner of building, center of building, etc. Are there a variety of methods employed?
A.15: The final goal of representing an ESITE is the centroid of the structure, however, there are two primary caveats: 1) Location accuracy reflects the technology available at time of location capture; and 2) The location of a new site is initially estimated at the intersection of the driveway and road or via orthophotos as a general navigation point for the field crews to acquire the final position. These records have a corresponding “GPSFLG” field value of “y”, i.e., location verification required. Older site records were generally located using manual GPS “offsets” that estimated a location based on the physical location of the GPS and manual bearing and range (distance to the feature) values. In the latter case accuracy degrades over distance.
