How Are Erosion And Deposition Related?
Erosion is the removal of surface material from the crust of the earth and the carrying away of the eroded materials by natural forces, from the place of removal. It is the removal of soil, sediments, rock fragments etc from the landscape. Erosion is responsible for altering of landforms and creation of new landforms like hills and valleys. By virtue of erosion, rock particles and soil are loosened by a process weathering. They are transported down-slope from elevated places through natural agencies like water, ice, wind or gravity. For the erosion to happen, three processes have to come into play: detachment, entrainment and transport. The process of erosion comes to a halt when the transported particles fall out or are left behind by the transporting medium and settle on a surface. This process is called deposition.
