There are many different ways that spammers may obtain your email address. If you sign up for a newsletter, the newsletter author may sell the email addresses of everyone who signed up for the newsletter to a spammer. If you forward email to large numbers of persons, all of those email addresses may eventually end up in a spammers hands as more and more forwarding continues through other persons. Email addresses listed on web sites or in newsgroups are easy targets for spammers. Spammers are also known to “guess” email addresses.
