How are electronic documents signed?
Land Exchange also has developed a secure process (similar to processes used by the Australian Taxation Office and the Customs Service) aimed at ensuring that only valid authorisations are given within the EC System. This is achieved by transactions being allowed to proceed only after every Subscriber has digitally signed the transaction documents. Legally this is the same as if an equivalent paper document had been signed. Digital certificates are issued by organisations approved by the Commonwealth Government. Through a highly secure process the EC System checks that a signature on a document is in fact that of the Subscriber.
