How are EEE and WEE spread?
• EEE and WEE are transmitted by mosquitoes that feed on infected birds.9 • Unlike WNV, birds do not develop EEE and WEE disease, but can act as a reservoir.9 • Horse-to-horse or horse-to-human transmission is highly unlikely.10 There were 184 cases of EEE in the United States in 2008.11 This map shows which states have the greatest incidence.
