How are duplicate patient records identified and managed?

0

Identification, handling and management of duplicate records is accomplished through an electronic master patient index (EMPI). Outside demographic data is converted into a standard format. Each demographic record is compared with existing demographic information to find the patient in the EMPI. Possible duplicates are added to a low priority queue for review by HIM staff. New patients are added to the system if no duplication is found.
