Dues are set democratically by the members, and are subject to a vote. Union dues are typically about 1 percent of a workers gross salary. The dues are split between the local, the state federation and the national AFT. Additionally, all AFT locals are required to join the state AFL-CIO. The nurses at Fletcher Allen pay about 10 cents per member, per month to the AFL-CIO.
