How are Dr. Longs services different from traditional psychotherapy?
There are three main differences between traditional psychotherapy and coaching. Those differences include the idea that therapy is usually focused on one’s past whereas coaching is focused on the present moment and one’s future. Additionally, psychotherapy usually assumes there is something that is “broken,” and therefore must be “fixed,” whereas coaching is oriented towards identifying one’s strengths and employing them to reach an even greater potential. Furthermore, the therapeutic relationship often takes on a doctor/patient dynamic, whereas coaching is more collaborative, empowering the individual, who will eventually learn they can control their own destiny.
