How are diamonds created in the lab?
There are two main methods. The first method is by brute force. A graphite carbon core with a diamond seed is subjected to extreme high pressure and temperature for several days. This emulates the natural process 100 miles below the earth’s surface of performing natural diamonds. The Russians created machines to do this. They were brought to Florida and improved upon. The second method is called Chemical Vapor Decomposition. Hydrogen and methane gases are used in combination with pressure and temperature to separate the electrons from their nuclei. The atoms deposit on wafer seeds and build up layer by layer. The product is then cut and polished.
