How are D-U-N-S Numbers assigned?
The D-U-N-S Number is owned and solely maintained by Dun & Bradstreet. When a business is first entered into the Dun and Bradstreet business information database, each business location that has its own unique, separate and distinct operation is assigned its own D-U-N-S Number. Separate D-U-N-S Numbers can be assigned to single locations, parents, subsidiaries, headquarters and branches. If a branch with unique operations operates in the same location as its headquarters, it will be assigned a unique D-U-N-S Number.
