Most courses are offered by distance education, making learning accessible by part-time study, outside working hours. Distance delivery includes print materials (usually a CACE manual and textbook, and occasionally an audiocassette), enhanced with Web conferencing activities and discussion facilitated by an instructor at an Internet Web site, which keeps participants in touch with the instructor and others in the class. Library reference materials at UVic are available via Infoline, the telephone library service. Some courses and workshops are delivered by face-to-face instruction during summer months, while workshops are available in classroom settings year-round.

LUTCF and FSS courses are taught in classrooms or online by experienced moderators.
