How are component stocks selected? Do they change?
The editors of The Wall Street Journal select the stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and are responsible for maintaining the index. Components dont change often; stability enhances public trust in the average. The most common reason for adjusting the average is action in one of the companies, such as a component company being acquired. All components are reviewed whenever one stock is changed.
