In practise such things often come about by using transformers with too high a primary voltage;thus taking the magnetic core above it’s designed working flux density.Otherwise complex waveforms with many harmonics are needed to produce good quality sound reproduction,such waveforms can easily be seen on a cathode ray oscilloscope when a musical note is played or sung into a connected mike.
