How are comments moderated, and who moderates them?

Comments are not approved before they go online, but they are monitored on the site by the Tribune’s Web producers, reporters and editors. Our approach generally is to encourage a robust debate by interfering as little as possible, while at the same time aggressively removing inappropriate comments. We don’t want the Tribune to become a repository for inflammatory and trashy commentary, and we take care to weed out inappropriate comments as best we can.
