How are chrisianity values and beliefs different to Sikhs?
Christians believe in one true god – monotheism, who has a very real character and identity as their father. Sikhs believe in a ‘universal’ god, i.e. that God is the universe, all around us, in everything – non-anthropomorphic, but I think they are still deemed monotheists because they believe in one god. Both religions believe that God is omnipresent and infinite. In that way the religions are similar and should/would respect one another. Christians believe Jesus was the earth-born son of their one true god, and his story is written in the Bible, their holy book – predicted in the Old Testament, and lived out in the New Testament, and written my the early church martyrs and leaders – earliest Greek references are c.233. Sikhs follow the teaching of the Guru Nanak, and nine other gurus since him, as their holy text, which was named after the tenth guru – Granth Sahib, but written by the fifth – Arjan Dev – in the 17th century.
