How are children selected for sponsorship?

The ChildFund sponsorship program enables local agencies and Parent’s Committees to select the children and families most in need of assistance. ChildFund National Offices, staffed with highly qualified local people, regularly evaluate all programs, double check family circumstances and offer guidance and training to local program staff in the communities. ChildFund Australia and ChildFund Alliance members regularly conduct needs assessments of different communities in the countries where we work. Where ChildFund identifies a community in need of our assistance, all children from that community are included within the sponsorship program. ChildFund’s work is aimed at supporting communities, rather than individuals, so every single child within that region will benefit.

The selection of children for sponsorship is determined at group meetings of the community where families and the child volunteer to be enrolled in the program. How child sponsorship works Sponsored children do not receive preferential treatment over other children in the village, which ensures that all children receive the benefits of your sponsorship. They do however receive regular monitoring as part of the program, as well as sponsor letters.

Tampa Bay’s Child is a voluntary program that helps loving parents help their children succeed – and is not intended to foster dependence or add to the often overwhelming burdens low-income parents already face. The program works with local agencies to identify kids whose families are in dire financial straits but whose parents are either working at a job or attending school to better the family’s situation. Tampa Bay’s Child’s goal is to identify and sponsor the most disadvantaged children in the county.

BEDCT work with partner organizations and local agencies in extremely poor communities to select the community most in need of assistance. When a community is selected, all children from that community are included within the sponsorship program. BEDCT regularly conducts needs assessments of different communities in the countries where we work. In addition, BEDCT staff will spend extended amounts of time working in the community with our partner organizations to evaluate and ensure the smooth running of all programs.
