How are children disciplined in Room C?
• I will make every effort to create a classroom environment where all the children are successful, in terms of behavior as well as academics. I try to eliminate problems before they occur and to create a situation where it comes naturally to “be good.” I do this by providing clear, consistent standards of behavior and by reducing distractions and frustrations. I think through who the children sit by, how long they are expected to sit, how engaging the activity is, whether the children expect they will need to respond, etc. I try to handle problems quietly and directly-signaling a child to move or standing next to someone while we continue a lesson. On occasion, students may be given a consequence for doing inappropriate behavior such as being benched for a few minutes at recess or finishing an assignment at recess or Fun Friday.
