How are child support payment amounts calculated?
The amount of child support is governed by the child support guidelines found in Chapter 61.30 of the Florida Statutes. In some cases, the guidelines may be based on a party’s earning ability which may be higher than actual earnings of the paying parent. (Example: When working full time, a parent earns $400 a week. The parent chooses to work part-time and earns $200. The earning ability is $400.)
