How are child support orders enforced?
Syrtash and Grunwald : In Ontario, all orders for child or spousal support are registered with the Family Responsibility Office. All payments are made to the Office, which then send the payment to the recipient. Defaults are dealt with directly by the Office, although every province or territory has its own enforcement provisions. Parties in Ontario can jointly withdraw from the direction of the Office, and then any payments are made between the parties. The recipient then becomes responsible for looking after any defaults. Some individuals prefer looking after their own enforcement rather than leave it to the government to collect.
