How are chemicals stored and disposed of?
The chemicals will be stored in double walled tanks inside a fully contained environment with spill alarms on a paved surface designed to manage spills and divert any liquid into the containment area. This is the same proven spill containment method as is already in place at the WWTP. Additionally, the tanks are vented to a series of pollution abatement devices that will break down any fugitive emissions. The WWTP and the biodiesel facility are subject to annual inspections by both the air board and water board to ensure compliance with regulations. Only sodium or potassium salts formed as a result of the catalyst being removed from the glycerin will be disposed of. These are not dissimilar to table salt. They will be disposed of in a grit dumpster along with other grit currently disposed of from the Waste Water Recycling Plant. Excess methanol from the biodiesel production process will be recovered by distillation and reused. Methanol is a costly component in biodiesel production and
