In fact, many criminals who have moved from stealing television sets and jewelry to stealing checks and credit cards have now moved to stealing identities. A boosted television set may reap a burglar fifty dollars at the most. Stolen credit cards may get a couple hundred of dollars. Stolen identities, however, can give an enterprising thief thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars.
