How are carriers able to charge less than Sprint, AT&T, or MCI?
Long distance carriers are able to lower their costs of doing business by avoiding expensive marketing campaigns on television, radio, newspaper, etc. Instead, they promote their service plans mainly by word of mouth. They provide their own customer service, billing, and account maintenance. Long distance carriers are often able to offer better customer service because of their size in relation to AT&T, Sprint, or MCI. Large corporations sometimes find it tougher to be able to feel the pulse of how to serve customers better.
