How Are Britains Animal Welfare Laws Changing?
Britain’s animal welfare laws are changing from the 6th April 2007 and it is the first time in 100 years that they are changing. So what does it mean? Well from the 6th April pet owners are now being told that they have a duty of care to their animals and there will be tougher sentences. If anybody is convicted of animal cruelty then the maximum time in prison has now increased to 51 weeks and they can be fined up to £20,000. Quite a hefty sum, and certainly one which will cause people to stop and think before they do anything. Also the age at which you can purchase a pet has also risen from 12 to 16 where children will be a lot more responsible and the animal is less likely to be found in a rescue home six months down the line.
