How are BATS entries handled if more than one agency responds to the incident?
Each agency is responsible for administering their BATS account. If there is no agreement as to which agency will enter the incident, then the database will contain duplicate entries, and the system will generate two (2) different BATS ID numbers. At the national level, the USBDC screens these cases so that the incident itself is only counted once for statistical purposes. This still allows each agency to track the incident(s) for its own statistical and case management purposes. Again, nationally, the incident will be counted once for statistics. Plans for BATS 5 include adding a de-confliction feature to allow an agency to determine if the incident is already in the system, and if so, to “link” to that agency’s BATS entry (based on date/time, incident type, and location). At that point, an agency will have the option of working together on the originating agency’s BATS case (e.g., “task force” setting), or continue to enter their own BATS incident details separately for internal case
