How are AR goal points set for each student and why are they different?
Once a student takes the STAR Reader test, the homeroom teacher uses that data to determine from a standardized goal sheet, the number of AR goal points a student should be able to accumulate over the grading period. Goal expectations can be very different based on student ability. It would not be fair to ask a student with a 4th grade reading level to earn the same number of points as a student reading at a 9th grade level. Goal points are based on the ability of students at various reading levels to attain them using them same amount of effort. For example, two students, one with high ability and one with low, read for the same amount of time. The high ability student would naturally read more or more difficult material than the less capable in the same amount of prescribed time. He would also be able to take a greater quantity of quizzes or more difficult quizzes worth more points. His goal points should naturally be higher. • ¨ Do goal points just keep going up and up and up? No. W
