Apu’s are Auxillary Power Units. When a truck is parked at a delivery destination. The driver usually has to stay with the load for security reasons. An APU provides power for airconditioning, heater, and electricity without running the trucks primary engine. An APU will consume less fuel ( about 1/10th) that of the truck engine. Most of this revolves around driver comfort during layovers.
