How are Ancestral File and Pedigree Resource File related?
The Ancestral File and Pedigree Resource File are two independent products. The Ancestral File combines pedigrees and family information submitted to it into a single representative view. This means that all submissions for a given individual are merged together to form a single entry. The Pedigree Resource File, however, is a repository for pedigrees submitted via the FamilySearch Internet. This file does not merge any information but keeps the individually submitted pedigrees separated just as they were received. The Family History Department is developing a new system that will combine the best features of both the Ancestral File and the Pedigree Resource File. The projected completion date for the new system will be announced later. Until further notice, patrons can continue to submit information to Pedigree Resource File, which is updated regularly online. Please remember that submissions can be made to the Pedigree Resource File only via the FamilySearch Internet.
