How are Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank customers affected by Santanders acquisition of Alliance & Leicester?
Although part of the Santander Group, Alliance & Leicester continues to be a separate bank, retaining its own banking licence. Money held with Alliance & Leicester continues to be covered under the FSCS and customers continue to receive protection separately to any other bank, including Abbey. Even though Alliance & Leicester and Abbey would then be part of the same group, Alliance & Leicester will continue to be a separately authorised firm, and will operate under a separate banking licence and there are no plans to change this. This means customers’ deposits with Alliance & Leicester will continue to be protected under the FSCS separately from the protection they may have for any deposits they may have with Abbey.
