How are alimony awards decided?
The court looks at the need of the requesting party and whether the other spouse is able to pay alimony. The court also considers the standard of living that was established during the marriage, how long the couple was married, age, physical and emotional condition of each person, financial resources, assets and liabilities, and a number of other criteria.
