Hotspot/fire detections may not always be the most appropriate source of fire-related information. The shapefiles do not provide any information on cloud cover or missing data. Depending on the sort of analysis you are performing, it is sometimes possible to derive misleading (or even incorrect) results by effectively ignoring the other types of pixels. In some cases it is more appropriate to use one of the 1- km Level 3 or CMG fire products.
