japan entered the war against the US, UK, and the netherlands because they (US, UK …) did not agree to a pact/treaty which allowed the japanese; 1) to continue there east asia campaign with no increase of western forces in chinese provences 2)to continue trading goods (i.e. oil and raw materials) with the wetern forces. The second was not met and so, they declared war on each 3 of these countires. The main reason they went to war against the dutch was to claim their pacific and Oceanic provences for (mainly) military advantage against invading US troops. Also the comment above about military commanders as head the government is valid, because they gradually my explanation was merely a scapegoat for them to go to war.
