How and when does the department make admissions decisions?
Competition for entrance into the graduate program is intense. In general, successful applicants have a GPA above 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale), Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores that place them in the 90th percentile or higher in at least part of the test, strong letters of support from faculty who have taught them in the past, a research abstract that demonstrates the potential for conducting quality research, and a convincing statement of purpose in applying to the program. These are guidelines rather than fixed rules; weakness in any of these areas can be offset by compensating strengths in the application. We will notify all applicants by mail at the beginning of February. Admission decisions will not be given over the phone or via email request. Please be patient.
