How and when are the operas cast?
Each spring auditions are held for our October production. Auditions are held for our March and April productions in early fall. All students should consult with their applied teacher as to what roles may be appropriate to audition for. The Music Director and Stage Director cast all productions. Do undergraduates have a chance to participate in main stage productions? Yes. Our most competitive undergraduates may compete for and be cast in leading roles. In general, undergraduates participate in chorus and smaller roles as needed. What other opportunities are there outside of the main stage productions? CU Opera produces two opera scene programs as well as educational outreach programs. Students also perform frequently in solo recitals, ensembles, master classes and community outreach programs for the college of music.
