Usually the jewels are quite aggressive, firemouths are not as aggresive as some of the SA cichlids. But then convict are aggressive as well. The gouramis and angelfish would be in danger of getting picked on excessively, even killed. None of them are as aggressive as African cichlid, though. And there are some others more aggressive as well. Jewels, firemouths, and convicts will dig up your plants and dig holes in the sand. So I don’t recommend keeping them together. You might try kribensis (a fairly non-aggressive African cichlid), dwarf gouramis, a pleco of some type (depending on the size of your tank), other gourami types/color variations, and/or some catfish. Different color varieties of angelfish (I like marbles) Just be careful and don’t overstock your tank. Also, if you want plants, keep away from most cichlids.
