How accurate is this IMF list of countries by GDP (PPP) per capita?
The absolute value of GDP estimates can not be and are not 100% correct for all the countries.The IMF list of countries by GDP (PPP) per capita is reasonably accurate in terms of the ranking of the countries in terms of PPP GDP per capita, though the individual GDP estimates may not be as accurate as one would have wished. We must note that among of the very few such PPP GDP estimates with a fairly high degree of accuracy, given the lack of reliable and accurate information on the value added of many countries and the quality of non-traded goods in poorer countries. The idea of making these estimates is not that the figures estimated are to be accurate to the extent of within +/- 5% of the true values. It is not necessary to be so accurate. But if we compare the movement of per capita GDPs over time and over different countries we do get a fair idea of the relative levels of average standard of living in these countries.
