How accurate is the herpes blood test?
You wouldn’t test positive for hsv-1 if you had been infected three weeks ago, it is far too soon. Which means you have had the infection for longer. You mention you have had cold sores in the past. A cold sore is an outbreak of oral herpes, and 97% of oral herpes infections are caused by hsv-1. It is usually caught from an affectionate kiss as a child. So, given that you have had oral herpes outbreaks in the past (and you never get rid of it even if you stop having cold sores as you have done) AND you have tested positive for hsv-1 but not hsv-2, I’d say it was pretty much a dead cert that you have oral hsv-1 – the common cold sore. But oral hsv-1 is nothing to worry about. By the time we are 50, 95% of us have hsv-1. I suspect the muscle aches etc you describe are stress related and nothing whatsoever to do with your hsv-1.
You need to remember that herpes can lie dormant in your body for an undetermined amount of years without causing any symptoms. The first episode usually occurs 2-20 days after the initial infection. The first episode also usually presents symptoms like you have when you have the flu which includes fever, body aches, and chills. It’s possible that you got a false-negative,but blood test are usually pretty accurate. Here is a link for blood test for herpes. Hope this helps! http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/accuracy…
