How accurate are Gateway Server real time clocks?
Real time clock (RTC) time variance is normal in most computers, to a certain degree. A typical computer can drift forward and behind official time by 5 to 15 additional seconds per day. Over the course of weeks, this can result in a perceivable time difference, and the accuracy of the RTC may be questioned. In most situations, if the clock variance is not outside the range of 5 to 15 seconds daily, it is not Gateway’s policy to replace the battery or motherboard on this consideration alone. If significant time loss or gain is incurred, it can be a sign that the battery is nearing the end of its life. It is difficult to gauge the potential variance of any computer’s RTC due to the large number of external factors that affect accuracy. Subtle differences in the operating environment of the computer can impact the accuracy of an RTC. For example, the ambient temperature of its location is one of the most significant factors. If accurate time is absolutely critical, it is strongly suggest
