How accessible would a Royal Enfield be for a novice rider?
After your direct access you’ll be able to ride any of the Royal Enfields because they are all under 33bhp. They are very cheap to run, and as cheap to insure as anything else. Your age will affect you – the bike won’t. They are basically very old designs, with a few modifications to drag them towards the 21st century. Reliability can be a problem (as it was with all 1960s British designs), but if you treat them with respect and don’t thrash them from cold for example, they can be a good machine. When they go wrong, they are easy to fix if you dare try it, or cheap to fix down the local workshop. If retro biking is your thing, you’ve got two choices – modern stuff that looks old, or the Enfield which really is old, it’s just still in production! You may agree that the “real thing” is worth the extra effort. Go for it, and enjoy.
